The stranger was telling her things about her life that she didn't even know.
Phoebe can read minds but she was never able to read her back story. All her life, Phoebe thought she was an orphan when she actually wasn't. That discovery came through Apollo, a handsome visitor of her fortune-telling shop. This ravishing hunk of a man was about to change Phoebe's mediocre existence.
As it turned out, Phoebe's mom is still alive but in a mental institution. As if that wasn't shocking enough, Phoebe learned that she came from a family of daemons. But the most exciting part of all? Phoebe read Apollo's mind and saw the two of them devouring each other in bed.
Apollo sought Phoebe for a reason he needed her help in finding the elusive Qilin. Qilin is a daemon, just like them, who has to be sacrificed to attain unity among daemons.
Follow Apollo and Phoebe's quest to find Qilin just as they find each other to love and make love with.

I'm not sure the other reviewers read the same book I did. Okay, grammar and spelling weren't half bad and it seems like someone took time to edit. However, the actions/ responses of characters read like an instruction manual and were just as dry. It lacked any sort of finesse for transitions or explanations describing what characters were doing or why they were behaving a certain way. The characters lacked any kind of depth or development. The plot was predictable and sex wasn't really exciting and seemed forced (as in out of character - not rape). The author has potential and kudos it's better written them some of the nonsense I have come across, but it's no where near a level that would entice me to buy into the series and I would not be interested in reading other works. Author needs to work on that intangible finesse that all good story tellers have. Explanations and descriptions that tell me what's going on and help me picture it WITHOUT me realizing it, transitions that are not abrupt but keep the story moving, and characters that are fleshed out enough that I actually care what happens to them. Good effort. JTMProduct details

The Awakening The Daemon Paranormal Romance Chronicles Book 1 edition by Darla Dunbar Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
To begin with, I had no idea how short this book was when I picked it up. To me, it feels like this is the first part of a novel that was needlessly broken up into smaller pieces, which took the fast-paced action of the book and gave it a very rushed feeling. And while I love the sample of the next book in the series at the end of this one, there is a teaser for a second book, by what appears to be a completely different author following that. It makes me feel like the last 20 or 30 percent of the book was sold as ad space and definitely detracts from my overall enjoyment of the book.
What Darla Dunbar has done very well in this book, is get right to the action and keep the story moving. Phoebe, the main character is very willing to give Apollo the benefit of the doubt when he shows up to pull her into the world of Daemons and his hunt for the Quilin, but given that she has grown up with psychic powers it's probably a lot easier for her to believe a handsome stranger who turns up and starts telling her things about her life and her birth mother than it would be for me to.
Another thing Dunbar does very well is balance moving along the plot with the steamy sex scenes. I would love to see a little more of a romance grow between Phoebe and Apollo though, at first it feels like the only reason for their hook up is that Phoebe can read minds, and Apollo has been thinking about having sex with Phoebe literally since he saw her. But Apollo is a big believer in fate, and believes he was fated to meet Phoebe. And, on a second read, these visions of hers seem more like visions of the future than straight-up sexual fantasy.
Overall, this story has a huge amount of potential and I can't wait to get a chance to sit down and read the second piece of the story.
Excellent back story and world building from mythology supports a fast adventure full of erotic pleasure.
This story is so inventive and sexy.
The main female character, Phoebe has been ushered back into the supernatural world of her real family by an intriguing stranger, Apollo, whose thoughts only seem to pull her more into his arms.
I liked that it immediately pulled me in with action that was there from the beginning. The mc (main couple) is full of intrigue but must say my favorite character is Qilin. So rooting for her to win!
Can't wait to see what happens in the next installment.
The book had a lot of promise, sadly the author did not translate that. The entire story was rushed and extremely short. I think I must have read this book in like an hour? The plot is extremely rushed. The sad part is, I really like the concept but the execution was bad. Darla rushes you from scene to scene. First Phoebe meets Apollo, trusts him instantly, meets her mom she never met before and next thing you know she is in a different part of the country. There are no transitions between the different scenes.
I wish the author would have elaborated this story some. It felt more like a short story one had to write for a school report, minus the sexually graphic scene, which btw were also rushed.
Unfortunately, I had no idea that this book wasn't a complete story, novella or short story...If I had known, I never would have downloaded it. Of course, it was free so I didn't lose anything by getting it other than the fact that I really would have enjoyed reading the entire story, finding out the future of the main characters and ultimately the rest of the book...In close, I did like what lil I did read and would recommend getting the FULL and ENTIRE book, not this tease of one.
This very short story is the introduction to the Daemon Paranormal Chronicles and exhibited good potential for a paranormal romance series. However everything, including Phoebe's introduction to her history, her acceptance of being asked to help in the killing of another person, Phoebe and Apollo's hooking up and the sex scenes were entirely too rushed. The premise is quite intriguing but I just wish that the author had taken more time with the world building, characterizations and the details surrounding the love scenes. The rushed manner in which the loves scenes were presented and the lack of salacious descriptive language prevented me from being able to savory and really enjoy them which ultimately made them disappointing. The dialogue was also quite stilted and didn't seem to flow naturally. The overall writing style was like that of a novice so improvement is definitely needed. Nevertheless, I will read the next installment and hope that the author's writing style improves and that she will slow down and flush this story out in the manner in which it deserves. Under 's rating system 3 stars means that "It's OK." I don't recall any typos which is always a good thing. I rarely say this about other reviews but I must admit that, in this instance, I find the 5 star ratings most perplexing.
